Bienvenue Chez Les Ch'tis

For many years, Philippe Abrams has been the manager of a post office in Salon-de-Provence, in the Marseille hinterland, where he lives with his wife Julie and their son. They dream of living on the Côte d'Azur, but Philippe's applications for the relevant posts are unsuccessful. To increase his chances, he feigns a physical disability. The fraud is uncovered and Philippe is transferred to Bergues in the far north of France for two years as a punishment. He is pitied by everyone, because the southern French regard the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region as hostile to life, the inhabitants as backward and uncultured, and the Ch'ti spoken there is difficult to understand. Enraged by her husband's unfair tricks, Julie stays in the south with her son Raphaël, while Philippe has to make the journey north alone.
