When a gruesomely staged corpse is found in the Alps, exactly on the German-Austrian border, the two countries send two investigators to solve the case. For Ellie Stocker from Berchtesgaden, this is the first major challenge of her career. The dedicated inspector throws herself into the investigation with full vigor. This is in stark contrast to her cynical colleague Gedeon Winter from Salzburg, who seems to have long since finished being a police officer and initially shows no interest in cooperating. However, when more bodies are found in the German-Austrian border area, it becomes clear that the investigators are dealing with an intelligent serial killer whose evil doings they can only stop together. "The red season will come" - the message the perpetrator keeps leaving behind, the selection of victims, the spectacular staging of the corpses and repeatedly appearing mystical symbols point to an irritating crime pattern early on. The investigators must find answers before the killer strikes again. In their hunt for the extremely skillful serial killer, the detectives not only penetrate deeper and deeper into the dark valleys, archaic customs and mysticism of the region, but also into the delusional world of a sociopathic murderer who wants to create a diabolical "work."
