In the intense heat of a summer terrorist campaign, Lana Washington is forced to put personal tragedy aside to try and solve the mystery of who is behind the attacks. Inter-community tensions rise as the Far-Right group English Flag – and their leader, Agatha Jack – take to the streets to blame Islamists for the attacks. CCTV footage of a suspicious vehicle leads police to a warehouse on the edge of London, but the discovery of evidence on-site makes Lana question the real identity of the bombers. As the bombings intensify, Lana struggles to cope with the dangers of her job, but finds support in her budding relationship with an old Army colleague, Karl. Lana works with New Scotland Yard to hunt The Crusaders but is confronted by the horrifying possibility that someone close to her could be involved in the bombing campaign. After a device is discovered at the campaign HQ of the Progressive Alliance, security is ramped up at the Deptford by-election count, where both Ayesha Campbell Khan and Agatha Jack are expected.
