Ryousuke Takahashi is an engineer of speed and believes downhill racing can prove a driver’s paramount skills, while Takumi Fujiwara has been delivering tofu in his father’s obsolescent Toyota AE86 every morning in Mt Akina and has unwittingly perfected the art of drifting. Takeshi Nakazato, on the other hand, is a professional racer.

Instigated by his father, Bunta Fujiwara, Takumi reluctantly races against Night Kids’ EVO. A glorious but unexpected victory awakens the competitive genes in his blood. At the same time, he also falls in love with his classmate, Natsuki Mogi. However, his overnight fame inevitably brings him to hellraising races one after another, each one more perilous and exciting than the previous one, leading to the ultimate duel between Takumi, Ryousuke and Takeshi.
