In the late 1950s, Ip Man has settled into a stable life with his wife and son. However, he is forced to protect the neighborhood, and must fight Frank, a local racketeer. Afterwards, Cheung Tin-chi, a friend of his, and a fellow Wing Chun practitioner challenge him to a battle, claiming Ip Man’s Wing Chun is not genuine. Ip Man shows him how a true kung fu master should act.

In the late 1950s, Ip Man (Donnie Yen) has settled into a stable life with his wife and son. His son Ip Ching gets into a fight with a classmate named Cheung Fong. Consequently, Ip Man befriends Cheung Fong’s father, Cheung Tin-chi (Zhang Jin), who is also a practitioner of Wing Chun.
Meanwhile, Ma King-sang and his goons demand protection fee from the school. Ip Man is forced to step up. In order to protect the neighborhood, he has to fight Frank (Mike Tyson), the criminal mastermind behind the racketeering.
Afterwards, Cheung Tin-chi publicly challenges Ip Man to a battle, claiming that his Wing Chun is genuine. Ip Man is torn between awaking the conscience in his friend and taking care of his family. Through the practice of kung fu, Ip Man reminds Cheung Tin-chi of how a true kung fu master should act, while finding out what the most important thing for himself is in life.
