This summer it’s all about history: Julian, Dick, and Anne’s father, Bernhard, have organised an exhibition on ancient Egypt. While on a guided tour, George, Julian, Dick, Anne, and Timmy the dog catch a burglar tampering with a 5,000-year-old mummy. The intruder flees, but within the mummy the Five find a gold amulet that once belonged to "Tutalun I" - the legendary, first Pharaoh of Egypt, whose priceless treasures went missing. Is the amulet a clue? Together with Bernhard and his colleague Elena, the Famous Five fly to Cairo to hand it over to Farouk, the head of the Archaeology Institute. But the amulet suddenly vanishes and Bernhard is arrested and accused of theft. The Famous Five know they must find the real culprit and the amulet to prove Bernhard's innocence. They set off in search of them with the street kid Auni. The trail leads them deep into the desert, where they are lured into a trap by a secret society.
