In politically explosive times, the fun-loving Elisabeth and the military-trained Franz Joseph meet. Against the will of his strict mother, Archduchess Sophie, Franz makes his decision to take Sisi as his wife. During the upbringing of the children, a scandal ensues, as Sisi refuses to place them in the care of others in accordance with Habsburg tradition. Psychologically and physically, Sisi reaches the limits of her strength. At the same time, the empire faces enormous challenges.
