Nice adaptation by A.F.Th. van der Heijden's novel about the death of his 22-year-old son Tonio, who was killed in an accident in 2010 after a night out with friends. Like the book, the film succeeds in making the parents' unfathomable grief tangible.

Tonio

On Whit Sunday 2010, 21-year-old Tonio cycles home early in the morning after a night out with his friends. He is hit by a car on the way and dies. His parents Adri and Mirjam are faced with the greatest loss that will change their lives forever. While Mirjam fights hard not to fall into a downward spiral of grief, Adri does the only thing he is capable of at that moment: digging in his memory, taking notes, writing. His thoughts are driven by two compelling questions: What happened to Tonio in the last hours and days leading up to the disaster, and how could this accident occur? A quest for the what and the how, which leads past various eyewitnesses, friends, police officers and doctors. In this way he reconstructs the life of his son in a desperate quest for meaning and meaning.
