Lao Yang, an Ordosian businessman in his sixties, goes broke due to the local economic decline. One day, he misappropriates a sum of money his children have accrued for his wife’s surgery. The children hold him in custody, forcing him to return the money. An outraged Lao Yang takes them to court, kicking off the whole family tragedy.
Lao Yang, an Ordosian businessman in his sixties, is not a good father in the traditional Chinese way. His wealth has "roller coastered" ferociously and his business went bankrupt years ago. Luckily, his three children are all grown up and have their own families.
Lao Yang spends his days taking care of his bed-confined wife, keeping a mistress, collecting debts, and gambling with mahjong. Money conflicts between Lao Yang and his children escalate. One day, Lao Yang runs into Lu Busen, an old acquaintance back when he used to run business in the pastoral area, and Lu Busen still regards Lao Yang as a wealthy boss. Lu Busen is in town to have his camel checked by the vet, and the vet is out coincidentally. The two then decide to find a place to catch up.
