Based on the successful books by Mirjam Oldenhave, Mr. Casey is a trainee teacher who, for the first time, must stand in front of his class to teach the kids from the fourth grade. He has no idea how to do it yet, but luckily the children help along the way – all to the frequent disapproval of Principal Dreus. For Tobias, the new substitute at school, Mr. Casey, comes just in time. The teacher expelled him from the class for no reason and Tobias is often punished, regardless of how clever, cheerful and funny he is. Mr. Casey offers an interesting and playful teaching method in contrast to the ordinary teachers and, fortunately, the children help him with his lessons. The children are allowed to eat sandwiches in the classroom as part of a food project and they turn the tables upside down during math. Although Tobias blossoms through the presence of Mr. Casey, Casey notices that there is something wrong with him. He never takes any food to school as his father has passed away and his mother stays in bed all day. Mr. Casey takes care of Tobias by sharing his sandwiches, taking him out to play pinball and letting him stay after school. However, the strict principal, Dreus, often disapproves of Mr. Casey's ways.
