Fang Ya-ge is a PE teacher who know nothing about music at an elementary buried deep in the mountains. He is assigned by the school principal to form a choir and be the conductor. They are expected to get excellent result in a choir competition in three months’ time so that their school will not be abolished. The choir is thus formed with limited resource in a hurry.
Having listened to the other choirs at the contest, the students have utterly lost their confidence and their courage. They are convinced that they sing in such a different style from the others, so they must be wrong. As their conductor and their teacher, Fang Ya-ge has to coax and lie to get the kids unto the stage for the performance. Although they fail to get the excellent result that they are hoping for, the applause of an audience of over a thousand people has reached deeply into the heart of these kids who come from a small school of 50 students. Fang Ya-ge also realizes that the kids will rekindle their enthusiasm to face frustrations, once they’ve got the applause. He starts using his expertise in PE to teach the students how to sing. Soon, the choir will touch the whole village with their singing.
